Community events are central to Aahung’s mission of creating safe, inclusive spaces where people can openly engage with topics often considered sensitive or taboo. By meeting communities where they are, we bring awareness, spark dialogue, and build collective understanding around critical issues in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Aahung regularly participates in festivals and public gatherings, such as the Wellness Festival and the WoW Festival, where we set up interactive stalls and host engaging sessions. For instance, our menstrual health session at the Wellness Festival targeted school-going children, offering them age-appropriate information on menstrual hygiene while breaking myths and stigma in a fun, approachable way.
We also extend our outreach to remote and rural areas through creative, participatory formats. Street theatre performances address pressing concerns like early and forced marriages, while mobile cinemas use traveling vans and pop-up tents to screen powerful videos that communities watch together, often drawing large audiences. These formats allow us to foster dialogue in spaces where access to information is limited, while making learning interactive and memorable.
In addition, Aahung organizes public awareness events such as the Bike-a-thon, which brought together over 200 cyclists to raise awareness on street harassment, sparking citywide dialogue on safety in public spaces. We also host Open Houses, such as the 2023 collaboration with our long-term partner Zindagi Trust, where we showcased our curriculum, methodologies, and impact while building transparency and partnerships with stakeholders.
Through these diverse community events, Aahung ensures that learning is not confined to classrooms or digital platforms but is accessible, engaging, and deeply rooted in lived community experiences.
